Washington DC!!

Just back from DC! I've been itching to go to Washington DC to visit the Smithsonian museums, so when I found a cheap flight I jumped on it! Here are some highlights of my trip...

Me in Chinatown ~This is not at all like the Chinatown in San Francisco, where freshly killed chickens dangle by their feet with their heads chopped off. Here, you'll see Benetton and Ann Tayler Loft, except with Chinese writing on the signs!

You can go up in the Washington Monument and enjoy 360 degree views of the
city.

That's the Lincoln Memorial and the new WWII memorial in the foreground.

The US Botanic Gardens; a green oasis in the heart of the city!

The American Indian Museum

The Smithsonian Visitor Center - really well maintained garden

The Renwick Gallery - it focuses on arts and crafts

The Renwick Gallery is palatial inside!

The Capital

I fell in love with the work of Henry Shrady - a mostly self taught artist who completed this in the early 1900s. If you look closely, the middle horse's tongue is hanging out. I love the attention to detail.

The guy falling off the horse is the face of the artist.

Another tongue!

A gorgeous view from the Washington Monument

I'm sorry this is so fuzzy, the light wasn't very bright. The flowers around that fountain were amazing and made the whole rotunda fragrant. This is in the National Gallery of Art, home to an overwhelming collection of famous paintings.

Just a few artists in this gallery include Degas, Renoir, Picasso, Matisse,
Da Vinci, Rembrandt, O'Keefe, Cassatt, Monet, and many many others

Usually in pictures of the Vietnam Veteran Memorial, you only see one wall. But the memorial is actually shaped in a wide V, so this is only half of it. God bless our vets.
